Amelia Community Theatre will present the beloved musical "Singin’ in the Rain" for 11 performances between April 10 and 27 at 207 Cedar Street. The 1952 movie version is often called the greatest movie musical of all time. Movie screenwriters Betty Comden and Adolph Green adapted their screenplay for the stage version, keeping all the memorable moments from the film and 14 favorite songs.
The show is set in 1927 and begins as two of Hollywood's favorite stars, Don Lockwood and Lina Lamont, arrive at the premiere of their latest film, "Royal Rascal." Their fans are sure they are in love, and Lina hopes a wedding is in her near future. Fortunately, "Royal Rascal" is a silent movie, as Lina's squeaky voice is off-putting. However, everything is about to change when the first feature-length talkie, "The Jazz Singer," becomes the talk of the town. Don and Lina's producers decide their next movie will be a talking, singing, and dancing musical. There is just one problem — Lina's voice. Can that be solved by secretly dubbing in another woman's voice? Namely, the beautiful voice of Kathy Selden, a young woman with whom Don is in love.
Director Peggy Strickland says, "I jumped at the chance to direct this show with its popular songs, catchy plot, and toe-tapping choreography."
Gene Kelly, Donald O'Connor, and Debbie Reynolds starred in the movie version. ACT's cast of 25 includes Sebastian Miller and Rene LaCroix as Don and Lina, Julia Taylor as Kathy, and Elliot Miller as Cosmo Brown. Other featured actors are Rae Colley, Doug Gluntz, and Trey Stafford. The dance company includes Olivia Campbell, Rosalin Davis, Kailin Lake, Addie Ryals, Zoe Stidham, Anaya Taylor, and Alexa Watson.
Ensemble players include Scott Bobeck, Isabelle Bournigault, Analiese Gluntz, Elaena Gluntz, Ian Miller, Jason Taylor, Elmer Smith, Clara Symthe, Jim Tipton, Judy Tipton, and Alyson Tucei.
