Our Commitment to Constructive Dialogue
The Observer welcomes your voice, and our intention is to create a respectful, engaging space for discussion. To ensure this, we ask all commenters to follow these simple guidelines:
Reader Identification
Readers must log in and be identified by name before any comment is accepted and published. Reader usernames will be included with the comment. Please use your full name or a recognizable variation of it as your username. This helps foster a more transparent and respectful community.
We ask that comments be limited to 200 words. A staff member will read all comments before they are posted. Comments from an individual user are limited to one per article per day.
Comment Guidelines

Engage in civil discourse. Personal attacks, hate speech, or harassment will not be posted.
- Keep It Relevant
Your comments should be about an article or another person’s comments. If you have something to say that’s not related to something you read in the Observer, we’ll post it if we think other readers would be interested. Comments with links to other websites or videos will not be approved.
- Use Respectful Language
Avoid profanity, slurs, or language that could offend others. Share your ideas thoughtfully, in a constructive way.
- No Harmful or Illegal Content
Content promoting violence, illegal activity, or sharing private information will not be posted.
- No Promotions or Spam
Comments that promote products or services will be treated as spam and not posted.
- Cite Credible Sources
If referencing data, quotes, or third-party information, include proper citations, when applicable, from credible sources. No disinformation is allowed.
- Public Visibility
Remember, your comments are public and can reflect on you.
