Fire Reported at ISOLA Home on South Eighth Street

Posted

A fire broke out Tuesday at ISOLA Home, the retail home décor and design shop located at 303 S. Eighth St. in Fernandina Beach.

Units from the Fernandina Beach Fire Department responded to the scene shortly after the fire was reported. Authorities temporarily closed a section of South Eighth Street as firefighters worked to contain the blaze and secure the property.

The structure, a circa-1900 contributing building within the city’s historic district, houses the ISOLA Home retail showroom and design studio. The extent of structural damage was not immediately available Tuesday afternoon, and officials had not yet released information on the cause of the fire or whether there were any injuries.

The Fernandina Beach Fire Department issued this report:

At approximately 8:25 AM this morning, the Fernandina Beach Fire Department (FBFD) and Nassau County Fire
Rescue (NCFR) were dispatched to a reported commercial structure fire located at 303 S. 8th Street.

Fire crews arrived on-scene to find a significant fire in progress, with heavy smoke and flames from the second story and the attic of the building. Personnel immediately initiated an aggressive interior attack and primary search.

Due to the specific construction type and deteriorating interior conditions, crews initially faced challenges
locating and gaining entry to the seat of the fire.

During the incident, three individuals required medical attention:
• One individual was treated on-scene for smoke inhalation and subsequently
released.
• One bystander, who experienced a medical emergency unrelated to the fire, was
treated and transported to a local facility.
• One firefighter was treated for smoke inhalation and transported to Baptist Medical Center Nassau for further evaluation and medical clearance.

This incident required a high level of coordination and teamwork to manage a very dangerous fire environment. The Fernandina Beach Fire Department extends its sincere gratitude to our partners for their vital assistance: Nassau County Fire Rescue (NCFR), the Fernandina Beach Police Department, and the Nassau County Sheriff’s Office Drone Unit.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

Witnesses reported visible smoke from the building as emergency crews arrived. Firefighters remained on scene for an extended period to ensure the fire was fully extinguished and to check for potential hotspots.

Owner Lori Lecker posted this on her Facebook page: "And, just like that. Poof! 8 years of love, passion, determination and hard work. Gone." More than 100 people responded in just two hours with heartfelt concerns.

City officials are expected to provide additional details following a preliminary investigation by fire authorities. Further updates will be reported as more information becomes available.

The house was built in 1900 by Captain James Bell.
