Agatha Christie mystery opens at ACT

Amelia Community Theatre concludes its 45th season with the acclaimed Agatha Christie mystery, "And Then There Were None," August 14-29.

As the play opens, 10 people arrive by boat on an isolated island off the coast of Devon, England. Three of them have been hired as staff, while the other seven are invited houseguests. Besides being strangers to one another, no one actually knows the host, who has yet to show up. As they are getting settled, a recording begins to play, accusing each of the 10 people of a past crime. It appears that the unknown host is seeking justice for these crimes, planning a punishment for each person that corresponds to an old nursery rhyme found framed above the fireplace. The rhyme details the demise of 10 little soldiers, one by one, until there were none. Will the guests survive the night?  Could the secretive host actually be one of them?

Written in 1939, "And Then There Were None" is considered one of Christie’s best-constructed stories and has been adapted for film, television, and the stage, with some alternate endings. Amelia Community Theatre produced the show on its studio stage in 1996.

Jennifer McCarthy, Mikenzie Paisley, and Anthony Pierce are among the cast of "And Then There Were None," opening August 14 at ACT.

Director Gill Johnston says, “Agatha Christie is the master of suspense. She has inspired generations of writers, producers, and directors. Her techniques for building suspense and inserting characters into mayhem is still a magnet for those who love the ‘who done it’ mysteries.”

The cast includes Melissa Coon, Bruce Gruber, Jennifer McCarthy, Frank O’Donnell, Mikenzie Paisley, Anthony Pierce, Ron Price, Anthony Rodriguez, Carlos Semidei, and Patrick Van De Watering.
