Lillian Johnson newly license pilot.Lillian Johnson is all smiles as she prepares to fly the Katana aircraft owned by the Nassau County School District.
Johnson, a cadet in the West Nassau High School U.S. Air Force Junior ROTC, earned her private pilot license this July at the summer flight training program sponsored by the U.S. Air Force at Kansas State University. She was one of the 128 to attend the intense, eight-week course out of the 1,560 Florida cadets who applied.
The plane is an asset of the school district’s Career and Technical Education Program, and is stored at the Fernandina Beach Municipal Airport in the hangar rented by Chapter 943 of the Experimental Aircraft Association. The chapter is part of the EAA network of over 170,000 members worldwide. For more information about Chapter 943, go to www.eaa943.org or contact Tom at foxflyer@bellsouth.net.
