YULEE — A suspected unexploded grenade discovered at a home on Yellowtail Court Monday morning prompted precautionary evacuations and a large response from law enforcement agencies, according to the Nassau County Sheriff’s Office (NCSO).
Deputies were called to the neighborhood after a resident reported finding what appeared to be a grenade. As a safety measure, nearby homes were evacuated while authorities assessed the device. The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office bomb squad responded to assist with the investigation.
Throughout the morning, deputies closed off access to parts of the neighborhood while bomb technicians examined the object. NCSO emphasized that the evacuation was precautionary and that there was “no immediate threat to the surrounding area.”
Shortly after 10:30 a.m., the sheriff’s office announced the situation had been resolved.
“The situation is under control and first responders are now clearing the scene. Residents can now return to their homes in the area of Yellowtail Court,” the agency said in an updated statement.
No injuries were reported, and officials have not yet released details on how the device was discovered or whether it was determined to be active.
