February 26, 2018 - 2:18 p.m.

Although the fourth Tuesday of the month is not a normal meeting date for the Fernandina Beach City Commission (FBCC), tomorrow will be an exception for two meetings.

The FBCC will convene in Special Session at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, February 27, 2018 to consider a resolution calling on State and Federal officials to support legislation to reduce gun violence in the country. The multipage resolution calls for:

  • Requiring a background check for every firearm sale;
  • Raising the age for legal purchase of firearms, magazines and ammunition to 21; and
  • Supporting the passage of legislation that would keep military-style weapons and high capacity magazines away from schools.

At 6:00 p.m. tomorrow and following the Special Meeting, the FBCC will conduct a workshop on city sanitation services. City staff seeks guidance from the FBCC on key elements of the upcoming contract for sanitation services.
