On November 1st, 2017 from 3-5 p.m., the Nassau County Partnership for a Healthier Nassau will provide an update on the 2016-2018 Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP). This presentation promises to be exciting as we will hear about health, wellness and the growth of our county. The keynote speaker for the event is Laura DiBella with the Nassau County Economic Development Board. Laura will present an economic snapshot of the local economy from past, present to future and how it relates to healthcare. Also, provided will be an update featuring the most recent CHIP accomplishments with new health projects.

The 2016-2018 CHIP identified strategic areas include:

  • Access to Care: This area focuses on minority and underserved populations. It addresses the needs of the East and West-sides of our county. The presentation will include highlights of work on a countywide Interfaith Health Ministry designed to provide health education and screenings to churches, the “Nassau Helps” resource cards designed to link persons to health services, the Westside health fairs sponsored by Barnabas, and the expansion of health services to our rural communities.
  • Behavioral Health and Substance Abuse: The presentation will provide updates on how we have increased community awareness of behavioral health-substance abuse services through the use of public service announcements(PSA’s) and how committee partners have provided extensive training to community persons, groups and businesses on mental health first aid.
  • Transportation: This update will reveal the extensive expansion of the NassauTRANSIT services highlighting the many venues for travel across our county.

Being involved in the Nassau CHIP is a great way to create change in the health of our community. If you are interested in getting involved or want to listen and see what is happening to support your healthy community please consider attending. It promises to be worthwhile meeting full of updates, networking and exciting news about our growing Nassau County!

Meeting date and time: November 1st, 2017 from 3-5 p.m. The location for the meeting is FSCJ Campus, Red Bean Center, Nassau Room. Please call Mary von Mohr at 904-557-9133, to learn more about how this plan connects to you and our Nassau County community.
