Cathy and Andy Fetzek

Cathy and Andy Fetzek moved to their home on Amelia Island in 2013. The landscaping at that time consisted of natural plants such as Palmettoes, Water Oaks and Live Oaks, except for one Sago Palm that is now located at the center of their home. Andy travels a great deal all over the world and the boy and girl statues in front of the Sago Palm were brought to their home from France.

The bronze statue of the little girl is surrounded by roses and she is carrying Blue Daze in her wheelbarrow. There is one of a little girl reading a book that they added for their first granddaughter. And another of St. Francis where they have buried a couple of birds that have crashed and died. They bought a Brazillian wood sculpture of a jaguar and Andy painted it by hand. Cathy and Andy enjoy finding the perfect plants to place around the sculptures. Selby Botanical Gardens in Sarasota, FL. is one of their favorite places to visit.

Andy built the deck and pavers on their home. It is always a work in progress and they enjoy working on the yard together.

They love to think of a garden feeling like a room. Walking on the paths is delightful and they enjoy seeing the seasonal flowers in bloom. There are winding mystical areas on the pathway and they often walk around and enjoy the many comfort zones. Who knows what beautiful area will come next!

“Spotlight on Nassau Gardens” is a monthly recognition program of the UF/IFAS Nassau County Extension Service featuring the beautiful gardens and plants grown by Nassau County residents.
