Ocean Highway and Port Authority (OHPA) Chair Brian Reaves made a guest appearance at the August 6, 2013 regular meeting of the Fernandina Beach City Commission to present the city with its annual check, this year in the amount of $50,000.
In brief remarks Reaves informed the commissioners that the Port of Fernandina handled 384,499 tons of cargo. Over the last 25 years he said that the OHPA has provided a million dollars to the city for community projects and improvements. He added that he is proud to be part of the city’s working waterfront and proud to employ 80 employees.
He thanked the city for its support over the years, saying, “It’s always easier when governments work together.”
Mayor Pelican accepted the check on behalf of the city without comment.
