Household items do not belong in recycle bins (L).  Mixing cardboard and plastic items (R) result in good recyclable material being placed in landfills. Photos provided by City of Fernandina Beach.

Newly relocated recycling dumpsters filled with objects which are not recyclable, are causing concern for Jeremiah Glisson, maintenance manager who oversees the city's recycle efforts.  According to Glisson, "All four cardboard and paper only dumpsters at the recycle station are contaminated.  [It is] frustrating when people abuse a good thing." Glisson plans to place larger cardboard or paper only decals on the containers in hopes the situation will improves.

When items placed in containers are not sorted properly, the entire container ends up in a landfill and defeats recycling efforts.
