Nassau Habitat for Humanity
Press Release
March 3, 2020
We at Nassau Habitat for Humanity, recently held our annual Volunteer dinner. This being our 25th year, the room was buzzing with excitement. At our dinner we were able to recognize most people who make Nassau Habitat a possibility. From donors and homeowners, to construction workers and those who helped on the legal front, we were able to thank them all and keep them up to date on what is next for us Nassau Habitat for Humanity.
Nassau Habitat for Humanity holds annual volunteer dinner at the Fernandina Beach Golf Club.Starting back in 1994 Jesse Duke, a local painter, saw a problem with affordable housing in Nassau County and proceeded to do something about it. From exploring our neighboring county, HabiJax, to Americus GA inquiring about what it would take to get an affiliate in Nassau County. All of this lead to the first successful home, which was primarily thanks to 1st Presbyterian Church, who is still a faithful contributor to us. Without them and many others we would not be where we are today, building a home for our 44th family.
In these twenty-five years we have been able to build 43 homes for local families. 13 of our homeowners have paid off their mortgages through Nassau Habitat for Humanity to date. Presently, we have 1 homeowner renting their home while completing their sweat equity hours, and 1 homeowner awaiting the finishing of their home to move in.
The homes we provide are more than simply a place to live. They give our homeowners a safe place to raise children and/or reside for many years to come. This benefits our community as well as the families. For example, our homeowners are working in Nassau County, paying taxes in Nassau County, and sending their kids to school in Nassau County. Being able to provide this for our community and for individual families is something we are beyond blessed to do. The homes we are building in the fall will be two 2-bedroom homes as a first of their kind for Nassau Habitat for Humanity. These homes can be applied for by contacting our office via e-mail:nassauhfh@gmail.com or via phone (904) 907-277-0600.
Donations can be made as a monthly or yearly pledge, or as a one-time thing. All donations are extremely appreciated and make a difference for families in our community. You can make donations through our website, www.nassauhabitatforhumanity.org or by mailing them in to 516 S.10th St., #115 Fernandina Beach FL, 32034
