Editor's Note: Updated information on COVID-19 is difficult to come by, but yesterday Nassau County Emergency Management posted the following local information on one of its Facebook pages. Take this surge seriously whether you are vaccinated or not.
Please pay attention and take action.
CoViD-19 outbreaks are increasing - BMC-Nassau is FULL and has more than a dozen CoViD patients now, with four on ventilators. System-wide, as of 07/14/21 they are caring for 175 CoViD-19 patients, 97% of whom are Not Vaccinated!
On Monday, the Miami Herald provided more details about the increase in cases throughout Florida:
Florida makes up 6-7% of the U.S. population, but according to the CDC has been responsible for 20% of cases nationally, in the last seven days. Florida’s CoViD-19 epidemic is being driven by outbreaks in the greater Miami, Jacksonville, and Panhandle areas.
Infectious Disease physicians attribute the uptick to behaviors in the community. People are unvaccinated and unmasked in public. People are in crowds. That is not what the CDC was recommending when it said people who had received a vaccine no longer had to wear a mask with others who are vaccinated.
CoViD patients now requiring hospitalization are mostly in their 30s and 40s, and most who are very sick have never received a vaccine dose. More than 8 million eligible Floridians have not yet been fully vaccinated.
