Karl Schlobohm’s middle school class from Amelia Island Montessori School hosted Keep Nassau Beautiful (KNB) for a recycling education event on America Recycles Day, November 15.

Students participated in a multi-faceted program focused on recycling education and environmental stewardship. KNB Board Member Ashley Powell led a recycling Do’s and Don’ts activity utilizing the Keep America Beautiful curriculum. Following the interactive “Recycle Pizza” training, students learned about re-purposing single use materials by creating unique reusable totes from feedbags donated by White Oak Conservation. The students used their reusable totes, trash grabbers and reusable gloves as they walked along the shoreline at American Beach for a cleanup event. Following the beach cleanup, their teacher, Karl Schlobohm, challenged each student to identify at least one more use for the reusable tote.

Keep Nassau Beautiful as an affiliate of Keep America Beautiful also encourages people to #BeRecycled in every aspect of their lives. The #BeRecycled Pledge is a promise to actively choose to live a recycled lifestyle by committing to “Reduce. Reuse. Repurpose. Recycle.” in all aspects of one’s daily life:

• Recycling at home, work/school and on the go;

• Buying products made with recycled content; and

• Educating and encouraging friends, family and neighbors to take the #BeRecycled Pledge.

“Take the Pledge” online at www.americarecyclesday.org or text “Recycle Pledge” to 91011.

Keep Nassau Beautiful, Inc. is working to inspire, educate, and equip individuals, groups, businesses and governments to take action to make Nassau County a place where residents, visitors and wildlife can thrive and experience the beauty of Nassau County. www.keepnassaubeautiful.org
