Please join us at 11:00 am on Saturday, May 14, 2016, at Main Beach Park for the introduction of the Mobi-Mat.

Mobi-Mat-RecPath-Access-Mat-13This environmentally-friendly American with Disabilities Act (ADA)-compliant matting provides safe and easy access for wheelchairs, strollers and walkers to maneuver on the beach sand. The matting material is made completely from recycled plastic bottles.

Funds for the matting were provided through an ongoing partnership between the 8 Flags Playscapes, Inc. and the City of Fernandina Beach. 8 Flags Playscapes, a non-profit grass-roots community organization dedicated to building places where playing is fun for everyone, raised $2,000 to assist with the purchase of the matting and the remaining funds were provided by the City of Fernandina Beach Parks & Recreation Impact Fees.

Approximately 330 feet of matting was purchased to be used temporarily for outdoor special events and semi-permanently at the Main Beach boardwalk access ramp.
