Two important items are up for consideration in the coming days, one before the Constitution Revision Commission and the second by the Florida Legislature.

First, please OPPOSE Proposal 95 which comes before two committees of the Constitution Revision Commission on Friday, February 2.  If Proposal 95 became a part of Florida's Constitution, it could strike down local government ordinances on environmental protection, land use, and growth management throughout Florida.  Both the Constitutional Revision Commission (CRC) Local Government Committee and the CRC Legislative Committee will hold hearings on Proposal 95 this Friday, February 2 at 9:00 AM.  Please contact the members of this committee as soon as possible using the information below. Tell them that you OPPOSE Proposal 95.

Proposal 95 says "A regulation enacted by a county, municipality, or special district may not intrude upon or impede commerce, trade, or labor across the respective entities boundaries."  This proposal could have devastating impacts on the work that cities and counties do to protect Florida's environment and improve communities. If Proposal 95 became a part of Florida's Constitution, it could strike down local government ordinances on environmental protection, land use, and growth management throughout Florida. If you support local control, planning, and environmental protection then join 1000 Friends of Florida in opposing Proposal 95. Please contact the above Commissioners, include Proposal 95 sponsor Senator Tom Lee, as soon as possible.

Second, please ask the Senate Environmental Preservation and Conservation Committee to support SB 462 to ban fracking on Monday, February 5.  Senate Bill 462 is a proposal to ban advanced well stimulation treatments (also known as "fracking") in the state of Florida.
