Photo courtesy of Richard Tinn.Harlequin Ducks are not often spotted in this area, but one seems to have a fondness for Fernandina's waterfront. Bill George who leads the Nassau County Bird Club says, "According to Birding Florida, the Harlequin Duck is an occasional visitor in coastal areas. {David Sibley, author of "Sibley's Guide to Birds] lists the Harlequin as a rare migrant in this area."
The duck continues to be seen along the Front Street riverfront.
On Saturday, December 9, at 8:30 a.m., join the Nassau County Bird Club under George's direction to bird on the Egans Creek Greenway. No experience necessary. Meet near the Pirate's Playground behind the Atlantic Avenue Recreation Center. Target birds are the Seaside, Nelson's, and Salt Marsh Sparrows.
