The General Duncan Lamont Clinch Historical Society will hold its quarterly meeting on Monday, October 10 at 7:30 PM. The public is welcome to attend. The meeting will be held in St. Michael Catholic Church Parish Hall located at the corner of North 4th and Calhoun Streets in Fernandina Beach.
Our speaker will be Mrs. Catherine Turner, parishioner and historian of St. Michael Catholic Church. Her presentation will be on the history of St. Michael Church and parish. In 2013, Catherine Turner completed a “Wall of History” for St. Michael’s new Parish Hall.
The presentation will offer insight into the beginnings of the Catholic faith on Amelia Island, the construction of St. Michael Church and how the parish has grown. St. Michael Catholic Church is a part of the original foundation of Amelia Island, having grown from a Mission site into today’s beautiful structure. One year ago under the leadership of Pastor Jose Kallukalam, the parish completed an extensive renovation of St. Michael Church. A tour of the recently renovated church will conclude the program.
