Fernandina Beach Run-Off Election: Tuesday, December 10, 2013

Registered Fernandina Beach city voters will again head to their polling places on Tuesday to select either Andy Curtin or Johnny Miller as a new commissioner to replace retiring Arlene Filkoff on the Fernandina Beach City Commission.

During the November general election, only 1,682 or 18.82% of the city’s 8,935 registered voters chose to vote.   The two highest vote getters in the four-person race – Andy Curtin and Johnny Miller – polled 525 (31.72%) and 579 (34.98%) respectively of the votes cast.  But comparing their vote totals against the total number of registered voters, Curtin was supported by 5.8% of the total registered voters, while Miller was supported by 6.4% of the total registered voters.

Both the Supervisor of Elections (SOE) and Interim Fernandina Beach City Clerk Kim Briley remind city voters of the following:

• While the deadline for requesting absentee ballots by mail has passed, voters may still pick up mail ballots or vote in person at either of the SOE offices through Election Day.  Ballots are not available at City Hall.  Voted ballots must be returned by 7:00 p.m. on Election Night to either of the SOE locations to be counted.  Voted mail ballots may not be accepted at a polling place.

• On Election Day, polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.  You must vote at the polling place for the precinct in which you reside.  There is no voting at City Hall.  There are three polling places in the City of Fernandina Beach:

  • Precinct 101 Martin Luther King, Jr./Elm Street Recreation Center, 1200 Elm Street
  • Precinct 102 Atlantic Avenue Recreation Center, 2500 Atlantic Avenue
  • Precinct 201 First Baptist Church, 1600 South 8th Street
