Registered Fernandina Beach city voters will again head to their polling places on Tuesday to select either Andy Curtin or Johnny Miller as a new commissioner to replace retiring Arlene Filkoff on the Fernandina Beach City Commission.
During the November general election, only 1,682 or 18.82% of the city’s 8,935 registered voters chose to vote. The two highest vote getters in the four-person race – Andy Curtin and Johnny Miller – polled 525 (31.72%) and 579 (34.98%) respectively of the votes cast. But comparing their vote totals against the total number of registered voters, Curtin was supported by 5.8% of the total registered voters, while Miller was supported by 6.4% of the total registered voters.
Both the Supervisor of Elections (SOE) and Interim Fernandina Beach City Clerk Kim Briley remind city voters of the following:
For Elections Office locations and information, visit the Supervisor of Elections website at www.votenassau.com or contact the office at 904-491-7500, Fax 904-432-1400, Toll Free 1-866-260-4301 or TDD 904- 491-7510.
The number of voters in a run-off election tends to drop off dramatically. Therefore, each vote cast has even more weight. For information about the candidates and their positions, see previous articles in the Fernandina Observer, consult candidate bios on the SOE website, watch the live streaming of the General Election Candidates Forum on the city website or contact the candidates: Andy Curtin (904) 261-4947 or bkdriverajc@gmail.com; Johnny Miller (904) 556-3299 or johnnymiller47@gmail.com.
