City of Fernandina Beach employees were hard at work in the hot morning sun to demolish the old main beach boardwalk. The first phase of demolition focuses on the walkway at the foot of Atlantic Avenue.
Just some of the rotted wood being removed to make way for a new boardwalkRotted joists, and decking were loaded into large dumpsters. According to Rex Lester, City maintenance manager, this section of the boardwalk appeared to be built on top of a concrete revetment placed in the area years ago to control erosion.
The demolition work will make way for a new structure.
