dar-3 Regent Lucinda Glenn (C) presents Historic Preservation Award to Jane Phillips Collins (L)and Gloria Toomey (R).

The Amelia Island Chapter, with Mrs. Collins and Mrs. Toomey in

the lead, provides perpetual care for the Vaughan-Scott Cemetery on First

Coast Highway on Amelia Island.

John Daniel Vaughan was a Revolutionary War veteran who settled

in the area after the war. His pension was 200 acres on the island, which

grew into Mt. Hope, a cotton plantation. Vaughan descendants married into

the Scott family, and both families are represented in the cemetery on what

is left of plantation land.
