City Races Go to Runoffs

Posted

Two Fernandina Beach City Commission runoffs are coming coming Dec. 13.

Incumbent Mike Lednovich, who had 44% of the Seat 4 vote on election day and James Antun, who had 34%, will face off for that seat. Genece Minshew, who had 40.6% of the vote in Seat 5 will contest the seat with Darron Ayscue, who had 31.7%.

They offer voters distinctive choices.

Lednovich has campaigned on a platform he calls “quality of life” and has actively championed projects to create greater natural resilience in flood-prone parts of the community.

His competition is a relative newcomer to the community who has a successful chiropractic practice and  whose professional demeanor speaks well for him. He sees the election as an opportunity to be more involved in community service.

The leading Seat 5 candidate, Ms. Minshew, has been critical of what she considers the city’s past failures to step up to important projects, letting them slide year after year. She’s calling for serious strategic planning, followed by getting the plan done.

Her opponent is the  president of the local firefighters union and says public safety is his first concern, followed by a critical look at city budgeting with an eye to reducing millage.
