Named as Tree City USA

City celebrates Arbor Day this Friday

Posted

The city of Fernandina Beach has received its 23rd year of national recognition as a Tree City USA community by the Arbor Day Foundation. This represents the city’s continued commitment to honoring community forestry.

Communities achieve Tree City USA status by meeting four core standards of sound urban forestry management: maintaining a tree board or department, having a community tree ordinance, spending at least $2 per capita on urban forestry, and celebrating Arbor Day.

In celebration of Florida’s Arbor Day, on Friday, Jan. 17, 2025, at 9 a.m., members of the city’s Planning & Conservation staff, the Nassau County staff of the Florida Forest Service, the city’s Parks and Recreation Department, and Southern Tree will hold a small tree planting event at the intersection of Ash and S. Seventh streets. The Florida Forest Service donated funding to help pay for the trees.

For additional information or questions regarding trees within the city, please contact the city’s Planning & Conservation Director, Kelly N. Gibson, AICP at 904-310-3480 or by email at kgibson@fbfl.org.
