Come Shrimp Festival time, Amelia Island celebrates a new book, “The Pirate Twins and the Lost Treasure of Old Town,” written by local author Britt Menzies. Menzies, a former preschool teacher, is an award-winning children’s book author who created the children’s brand StinkyKids® and the 2012 Best Family Musical “StinkyKids, the Musical”®. This latest children's book about pirates will be her fourth book overall.
"The Pirate Twins and the Lost Treasure of Old Town" features Marsh and Fern, twins who discover a treasure map in Grandpa Gus’s garage. Led by grandpa and his trusty dog Birdie, and equipped with the map, a compass, and a shovel, the trio embarks on a journey of discovery. The book also includes a short history of Amelia Island, a guide to pirate language, and a treasure map that guides an island adventure for the whole family.
The book debuted April 26 at Story & Song’s Saturday “Story Time with Ms. Dearsha." The popular free program every Saturday morning at 10:30 a.m. includes a craft project. In addition to the official launch, the 60th Annual Shrimp Festival will feature a book event on Saturday, May 3, 2025, 11:15 - 11:30 a.m. at the Fun Zone. Autographed books will be available for purchase and are also available at Story & Song Bookstore Bistro.
