Registration is now open for Amelia Lifelong Learning (ALL) fall 2020 classes. ALL classes offer adults the opportunity to explore interesting new subjects in a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere with no pressure, no papers, and no tests.

Because of COVID-19 only five classes will be offered, with a hybrid mix of on-site and on-line Zoom classes. On-site classes will be held at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church and at Amelia Community Theatre. Masks and social distancing will be observed and class sizes will be limited.

On-Site Classes – St. Peter’s Episcopal Church

Glimpses of Times Past and Times to Come, with Richard Scribner

Have some intellectual fun exploring essential issues such as: Where did we come from? Where might we be going? What is the future likely to look like?

Tuesdays, October 27 – November 17, 10 am – Noon. Class size limit 9.

The Tradition of Southern Folk Medicine, with Marge Powell

Learn about the herbal origins of local folk medicine from the Spaniards and Indigenous People to the present.

Thursday, November 19, 10:30 am – Noon. Class limit 9.

On-Site Class – Amelia Community Theatre

The Play’s the Thing 7.0 – “Our Town,” with Ron Kurtz

Enjoy an inside look at the stagecraft and the people who prepare and stage the play, a true American classic by Thornton Wilder. This class is a partnership between Amelia Lifelong Learning and Amelia Community Theatre.

Thursdays, October 22 – November 12, 3:00 – 5:00 pm. Class limit 10.

On-line Zoom Classes

East Asia and the Coronavirus Pandemic, with Mark Ericson

See how the pandemic impacted China, Japan, and Korea and how their social, political, and cultural environments shaped their responses.

Tuesdays and Thursdays, October 22 – November 12, 10:00 am. Class limit 10.

World War II in the Pacific and its Aftermath, with Steve Ericson

Examine the reasons Japan went to war with the U.S. in 1941, the war itself, and the postwar U.S. occupation of Japan and its effects.

Wednesdays, October 21 – November 12, 10:00 am. Class limit 10.
