Re: City Beaches, Recreation, and Public Health
After consultation with the City Commissioners and in line with the Executive Orders of Governor Ron DeSantis
The City of Fernandina Beach will restore unlimited public access to the beaches within its corporate limits, effective 6:00 AM, Monday, May 4, 2020. Activities on those beaches are unrestricted, with the exception of complying with the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) guidelines related to social distancing. Beach visitors and all residents are encouraged to take additional personal preventative measures in response to Covid-19.
The City of Fernandina Beach Golf Course will re-open at 7:00 AM, but other recreational facilities at Central Park (tennis, pickleball, and petanque courts- as well as the waterfront petanque courts), the Atlantic Recreation Center, and the Martin Luther King, Jr. Recreation Center will remain closed. Access to the docks at the Marina remain will remain restricted to boat owners/occupants. City restroom facilities remain closed.
The challenges of overcoming the effect of the Covid-19 pandemic remain, and the local State of Emergency remains in effect to provide tools necessary to ensure the public health, safety, and welfare of the City of Fernandina Beach.
The community has taken great measures to mitigate the impact, which provides for this opportunity to restore access to a wonderful community asset- the Atlantic Ocean beaches. Please again enjoy those beaches but continue to stay safe and healthy.
