1000 Friends of Florida offers free webinars this fall

We are able to offer these webinars at no cost to participants thanks to the support of our generous sponsors who are recognized later in this message.  We are seeking additional sponsors so we can continue to offer these events free of charge.  If you'd like to find out more about sponsorship opportunities, please email Vivian Young at vyoung@1000fof.org.  We reach more than 2000 individuals a year with the DeGrove webinars, so sponsorship provides an excellent opportunity to reach out to elected and local government officials, professionals, and concerned citizens across the state.

If you aren't able to sponsor and are not a member of 1000 Friends, we hope you'll join us so we can continue to offer free webinars, provide planning guidance, and advocate on your behalf in the halls of the Legislature and in the courts.

The Trust for Public Land's Will Abberger and Pegeen Hanrahan will share proven strategies to assist Florida communities with the design and passage of local ballot measures to generate new public funds for parks and land conservation.  The TPL Conservation Finance program has helped pass 26 local ballot measures in Florida, creating over $1 billion in new funding for conservation. In 2016 alone, TPL helped win voter approval for all three conservation measures on the ballot: a ½-cent sales tax in Brevard County for Indian River Lagoon restoration, a ½-cent sales tax in Alachua County for Gainesville city parks and Alachua Forever, and continuation of Lee County's Conservation 2020 program.   The goal of the webinar is to share how local governments and community groups in Florida can help fund the conservation of important local and regional natural lands to support Florida's greenways and trails networks, the Florida Wildlife Corridor, and other park and conservation initiatives.  This event has been approved for 1.5 AICP CM Credits for planners (#9132938).  1000 Friends has applied for credits for Florida attorneys (CLE), Certified Floodplain Managers, and Environmental Health Professionals but cannot guarantee they will be approved.

With the 2018 Florida Legislative session set to start on January 9, once again 1000 Friends President Ryan Smart, Policy and Planning Director Thomas Hawkins, and Board Member Emeritus Lester Abberger will discuss key community planning and conservation bills to be considered during the 2018 legislative session, and how they could impact state and local governance in Florida. This event has been approved for 1.5 AICP CM LEGAL Credits for planners (#9132940).  1000 Friends has applied for credits for Florida attorneys (CLE), Certified Floodplain Managers, and Environmental Health Professionals but cannot guarantee they will be approved.
