First Presbyterian Church of Fernandina Beach, established on May 22, 1858, is delighted to announce the launch of a significant remodeling project for The Anchor, a cherished community landmark and youth center located in historic downtown Fernandina Beach at Sixth and Centre Street.
Originally constructed in 1957 and long celebrated as the Waas Drug Store, this iconic building was acquired by First Presbyterian Church in 2000 and has since served as a vibrant hub for youth activities.
As part of our ongoing commitment to youth development and community engagement, the remodel, which started in January 2025, involves both interior and exterior enhancements designed to meet the growing needs of our church and its dynamic youth programs. With the project expected to reach completion by July 2025, The Anchor is set to become an even more important cornerstone for communal activities and youth engagement in Fernandina Beach.
"We are thrilled about the transformations underway and the opportunities these enhancements will create for our community," said a spokesperson for the church. "This project not only respects the historical significance of the building but also ushers in a new era of service and outreach in our community."
First Presbyterian Church extends an invitation to all community members to join in the enthusiasm and stay connected as we progress with the remodeling of The Anchor. We welcome your interest and support in making this project a success.
