GoFundMe effort begins

Fire destroys first responder's home

Posted

At 4:08 p.m. on March 18, 2025, units from the Fernandina Beach Fire Department (FBFD) and Nassau County Fire-Rescue (NCFR) responded to a single-family residence after a 911 call reported a fire.

Fortunately, all occupants had evacuated safely before firefighters arrived.

Upon arrival, crews encountered heavy smoke and flames originating from the rear of the home.

Firefighters launched an aggressive attack, bringing the fire under control within 20 minutes. Despite their swift efforts, the home sustained severe fire, smoke, and water damage, rendering it a total loss.

The American Red Cross has been notified to assist the displaced family, and Florida Public Utilities was called to disconnect power and assess nearby electrical infrastructure. The Florida State Fire Marshal’s Office is currently investigating the cause of the fire.

Tragically, this home belonged to one of our own — Rescue Lieutenant Kevin Ross, his wife Hannah, and their two daughters. While we are grateful that no civilians or firefighters were injured, the FBFD family is deeply affected by this loss.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the FBFD and NCFR firefighters who responded, as well as the community members who have offered their support during this difficult time. Please keep the Ross family in your thoughts and prayers as they begin the recovery process.

A GoFundMe page has been established for the family.
