After more than 40 years of serving riverfront dining, Brett's Waterway Cafe closed its door for good Saturday night. Many locals and visitors made one last visit to the restaurant and expressed their feelings on Facebook. The city-owned building is scheduled to be demolished in 2026.
Here's what was expressed on Facebook.
Marian Phiilips: Picture perfect cloud hung over Bretts tonight. Plenty of sunshine inside. Said my goodbyes tonight to our iconic Bretts Waterway Cafe. Sad to see it close. Another part of our history is going away. So good to be there tonight with great friends.
Suzanne Ingram: Love this place .the food was very good. the people who wored there very nice.
Lisa Presnell: Today was bittersweet. I went to Brett’s Waterway Cafe for one last meal, and the outpouring of love from the community was incredible. This place has been a staple of our island for so many years — truly the end of an era.
Dee Ferrara: My children and I have had Brett's memories well over 30 years and truly appreciated having to opportunity to dine and hang out! So sad to see the closing!
Ashwini Tiwari: Thank you everyone for the amazing experiences over the years!! Truly unforgettable and one of a kind.
Kathy Maphey: Bittersweet doesn't even begin to describe it... thank you Brett's Waterway Cafe for the memories, and shout out to Todd Ericksen and Brooke for being the best.
