9 Restaurants Don't Pass the First Inspection

Posted

Disclaimer: These records are sanitation and safety inspections conducted by the Division of Hotels and Restaurants on public food service establishments. Each inspection report is a "snapshot" of conditions present at the time of the inspection. On any given day, an establishment may have fewer or more violations than noted in their most recent inspection. An inspection conducted on any given day may not be representative of the overall, long-term conditions at the establishment. Information is updated weekly or you can search for the most recent records for a particular establishment at Nassau County Restaurant Inspections.

What is the purpose of publishing these reports?

Arent these reports publicly available upon request?

Does someone at the observer have a bone to pick with the fernandina restaurant industry?

Does the observer editor not get 'the best seat in the house' whenever he/she goes into an establishment?

The Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR) makes inspections public, but many Fernandina residents don’t know where to look or how to interpret the data. The Observer provides summaries that make this information more accessible.

Our readers gain insight into the cleanliness and food safety practices of our restaurants. Knowing which establishments have critical violations (e.g., improper food storage or pest issues) helps protect diners from potential foodborne illnesses. Thus, publishing inspection results empowers residents and visitors to make more informed decisions about where they dine. It also incentivizes restaurants to maintain higher standards.

By regularly publishing this information it reinforces the Observer’s role as a civic watchdog — holding both restaurants and state agencies accountable. We provide a factual, non-editorialized service based on official government data. -- The Editor

I am a big supporter of the “Observer” however I believe routinely publishing the reviews goes too far. The Health Department does a good job of enforcing the strict standards and should be working in partnership with restaurant management to correct any deficiencies. That should only be news for the extreme situations such as restaurant closures.

Thank you so much for posting always the restaurant score. The health department can only do so much and these restaurants need to be held accountable. Anyone that does not agree need to eat out and come home sick as a dog!!
